October 23, 2002 - Nostalgia
A while back I came across a band called Press Play On Tape which is unique in that it's the only Commodore 64 revival band that I know of. Yes. Commodore. 64. Revival. Band. Playing all your old favorites like the OutRun driving song, which is available for download on their site btw.
And they're good... brought back some memories of gaming days gone by. And these guys are good... sound good and seem to have a good sense of humor. And that sense of humor comes across vividly in their "Game Boy Band" video. Which is, as far as I know, an original love song devoted to the C-64. And it looks amazing considering it was shot using a camcorder and some effects software. If you go and download it, make sure to check out the Karateka dancers. I hated Karateka... it was one of the harder C64 games around, Mission Impossible being the hardest ever. In fact, I wish I still had the Mission Impossible floppy so I could devise some sort of execution for it.
After some more Commodore browsing, I came across a version of Frodo (the commodore 64 emulator) for EPOC devices. Which means I now have to charge up my Revo and load this bad boy on... if I can get Zak McKraken to play on that, the Zaurus is going up on ebay.
I wonder if Press Play on Tape would ever do the Zak theme song... and I wonder if they're available for weddings in the States....
