August 11, 2003 - Tomcat!
Dear Tomcat Folks,
I use Tomcat. I like Tomcat. I wish it had some features it does not, but that's neither here nor there.
I like your logo. I think I have an idea for a newer, updated logo.
Enjoy,

Software I can't live without.
A list - by me.
JEdit - Are you a programmer? Do you write HTML? Do you write HTML and only HTML and call yourself a programmer? (If yes, go play in traffic). If you answered yes to the first or second, then you need to check out JEdit. With a plugin system that rivals Emacs, and the ease of use that blows my mind it is the one text editor that I'd want if I had to code my way off a desert island. Seriously, just try writing a simple HTML file with to get some idea of it's power. It doesn't insert closing tags as soon as you finish typing your opening tag (interdev, you fucking bastard, stop doing that). It highlights matching tags. It makes sure indents match. And that's just HTML. Get a few plugins and you can write java code nearly as easily as you could with a fullly featured IDE. It won't replace that IDE (unless that IDE is interdev, which is utter shit), but it's nice for the "simple" jobs.
Opera - Don't get me wrong, I still like mozilla. But for some reason Opera grew on me, similar to a fungus but without all the itching. Both are great browsers, and definetly the two best out there (and a shoutout to Konqueror/Safari), but Opera's easier to use preferences, slightly quicker rendering, and overall ease of use have won me over.
CVS - CVS is one of those tools that I curse, and curse often, for making me do things like checking code in. But when/if it saves my ass, and I'm sure it will, I'll love it. Also loved is the fact that I can use one of dozens of front ends with it (as opposed to sourcesafe, which has the brand new for 1992 interface. Thanks interdev!). Not as hard to setup as some people may think, and pretty transparent when it's working, a great way to maintain your code.
Gaim - What can I say about gaim that everyone doesn't already know? Sure, it does AIM, Yahoo, MSN, and about a billion different other IM services in one client. Yeah, it does File Transfers and IM images. Yeah it has all those nifty plugins that do all sorts of cool things that the official clients don't do. Oh, I know.... It'll let you stop animation on annoying buddy icons that some people insist upon using. If that isn't a killer selling point, I don't know what is.
XMMS - It plays MP3s. Supports all sorts of nifty plugins, and most winamp plugins. It also isn't the bloated, fat, dying cow that winamp3 is.
That's a short list, there's other software that I just can't decide on. I haven't decided if Netbeans or JBuilder is the better IDE, they each have their strong and weak points, and are just too evenly matched for me to make a call right now. There's Tribes 2, which is the closest thing to a game that I can't live without. And UT, which gets an honorable mention in the games department.
