September 10, 2003 - A quick tour of selected stadiums...
I have this yearly tradition of going to see a Jets away game. I think it's kinda fun to see them in a foreign venue, and you get to see new things.
Yeah, okay, it's really just a lot of fun to taunt the homers. What follows is a breakdown of the stadiums I've visited in the last few years, and what you can expect there.
Ravens Stadium
Overview -- Formerly known as PsiNet stadium. If you ever get a chance to see a game, do it here. Absolutely fantastic stadium, parking is easy and quick.
Facilities -- There are large screen tv's located at any of the seemingly hundreds of full size bars located throughout the stadium which means you can watch the game on the big screen if it's too cold to go outside. Why you're there if you can't handle the elements is another question. Food is top notch.
Fans -- Friendly and good humored. Steady screams comparing Ray Lewis to OJ met with chuckles.
Game Outcome -- Jets destroyed.
Heinz Field
Overview -- Located in downtown Pittsburgh. Not as bad as you think. Tons of hotels are available in walking distance from the hotel, and tons of bars and clubs provide plenty of entertainment.
Facilities -- Clean and modern interior. Food is okay, nothing special. Seats are cramped.
Fans -- Angry. Moody. Not to be messed with. Worst moment of the game was when I stood up after a jets defender and a steelers WR got tangled up and the ball bounced by them. Most of the fans were yelling for a pass interference flag, and I joined them by yelling (very, very loudly) for a "offensive pass interference flag". Some 300 pound guy with a ZZ-Top beard wearing a mining helmet then told me to "shut the hell up you faggot cocksucker". I didn't say a word after.
Outcome -- Jets lost.
FedEx Field
Overview -- Located in a town all it's own, RalJon (combination of the former owner's two sons, Ralph and Jon. Personally I think JonPH has more oomph, but hey). Parking is utter hell. Don't park there. IT's $25 dollars to park 3-4 miles from the stadium. There is no closer parking.
Facilities -- Nice, but not that nice. My hot dogs were soaking wet, and the other food looked bland at best. Not that impressive for a relatively new field.
Fans -- Friendly, good natured, but edgy. Shades of Pittsburgh in there.
Outcome -- Jets loss.
